What size bicycle do I need?
The size of our bikes varies slightly by model, as does the selection of sizes available. If you explore our website for the bike model you like and click the small question mark next to the size range, you will see what size we recommend for your height.
Choosing the proper size bicycle depends on a variety of criteria. The length of the arms, torso, and legs, as well as fitness level and flexibility, are all crucial considerations for sizing. For this reason, visiting your local dealer to be fitted to a bicycle and given test rides to guarantee comfort and safety is the best method to get you on the right size bike, especially if you are in between sizes. We provide size recommendations on the bike model overview tabs. You may view the Sizing Chart here.
How much do your bikes weigh?
We don't include bike weights on our website for numerous reasons. First and foremost, we may have to significantly modify a bike's specifications from those mentioned on our website, which will affect the overall weight. The size of a bike also influences how much it weighs, so we'd have to give multiple weights for each model variety. If you want to know how much one of our bikes weighs, we recommend visiting your nearest Marin dealer, who will weigh it for you.
Does Marin offer touch up paint or replacement decals?
We no longer carry touch-up pots due to the environmental impact of creating and keeping excess paint. If your bike's paint has to be repaired, the best option is to visit your local car repair or hobby store. Both of these resources include a huge selection of paint and paint pens that are ideal for fixing nicks and scratches. They also provide gloss and matte clear coatings to complement your frame's finish.
The decals on our bikes are applied during the frame painting stage using specific procedures and are not intended to be removed after the final clear coat is applied.
Can you repaint my Marin bicycle?
We do not repaint bicycles or offer custom paint jobs.
Can I replace my rear shock with another model?
The original equipment shocks used on our full suspension vehicles are custom-tuned for each model, and any aftermarket shock will most likely lack our proprietary internal damper tuning.
To get the finest tune on a shock, you may need to pay for a factory service and have it re-tuned to our factory specifications. Our suspension partners have this information.
What is the maximum fork travel I can have on my bike?
Fitting a longer travel fork to your bike than the one that came with it can alter the geometry, which may have unintended consequences when climbing and cornering, as well as increase the stress on your frame. As a result, we'd keep to the frame's recommended fork travel or make just minor adjustments. A new fork's axle-to-crown dimension should be within +/- 10mm of the stock fork.
If you don't like the fork that came with your bike, you can change compression damping or add volume spacers to make it more suitable for your riding style. As always, consult your local bike shop for specialized tuning recommendations.
What is the widest tire I can use on my bike?
We at Marin are huge fans of fat tires since they provide greatest grip and comfort. Tire clearance can be difficult to quantify due to the lack of a standard method of measuring tires. Some manufacturers measure the tire's widest point, whereas others measure the carcass (the central section without the knobs). Furthermore, a particular tire model will change depending on the width of the rim it is mounted on. Tires are also handcrafted, so there will be some variation.
Checking the tires on your bike is a good place to start. For example, if your bike was sold with 40mm tires, it will accept 40mm or smaller without trouble. For bikes with tighter clearances, such as our Gravel/Beyond Road line, we frequently include the maximum tire width (for multiple wheel sizes, if applicable) on the bike's product page.
How can I tell if a specific new part will be compatible with my Marin?
Bicycles employ a wide range of component sizes and specifications. It is critical that you acquire and install the correct pieces for your frame. Understanding the proper fit for parts needs much knowledge and expertise, which cannot be compressed into a website FAQ answer. We strongly advise you to visit a competent technician or salesperson at your local bike shop to guarantee you get the correct item.
Can I fit a double or triple crankset to my bike?
When you buy a bike today, it's likely that it was built to work with a single chainring crankset, which means there won't be room for a front derailleur or cable guides. Before obtaining a new crankset, we recommend speaking with your local bike shop: a larger cassette or a smaller front chainring may provide the lower gears you require.
If you wish to change your double or triple-crankset bike to a single chainring, you may need to buy a new cassette, shifter, and derailleur. We recommend taking it to a bike shop, where they can advise you on what parts you need and what will work with your present frame.
Can I fit a dropper post to my bike?
You can now find dropper posts to fit practically any bike, but make sure they are compatible. First, check to see if your bike has internal dropper post routing; this is usually indicated by a small port in the seat tube. Then, check the diameter of your seat tube, which can be found on the bike's model page on our website under "Specifications," or check the existing seatpost. Finally, the sort of lever required will differ depending on whether you intend to use the post with flat bars or drop bars. Your Marin dealer will be able to offer advice.
Can I fit fenders to my bike?
Whatever type bike you have, there will be an attachment available to keep the mud off it. Our Drop Bar, Bikepacking/Adventure, and Fitness/Transit models include mounting eyelets for fixed fenders. At the same time, our mountain bikes can be equipped with front fenders that are specifically built for suspension forks. As always, your local Marin dealer can assist you in selecting the optimal option for your bike and riding style.
Can I fit a rack to my bike?
Rack attachment eyelets are available on our drop bar, bikepacking/adventure, select hardtail, and fitness/transit models. Other rack types, such as Old Man Mountain or Tailfin racks, can be used to suit bikes without frame eyelets. Racks are available in a variety of styles to accommodate bikes with varied wheel sizes, brake types, and load capabilities. If you need help selecting the right one, contact your local dealer.
How do I clean my electric bike?
Cleaning an electric bike is pretty similar to cleaning a regular bicycle. You can use soap and water without worrying about the electrical components; however, use caution around battery charge ports and avoid using a power washer unless it is a bike-specific low-pressure one. We've created a video demonstrating how to clean your e-bike, which can be viewed here.
Is my bike compatible with SRAM AXS T-Type?
SRAM T-Type derailleurs are compatible with SRAM's Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) direct mount technology. Some of our latest frames contain this technology; check compatibility with your local Marin dealer if you have any questions.
