The Marin Story

Made for Fun, Made for Runs

Marin Bikes are designed for fun. Since the first mountain bikes with the Marin Bikes name emerged in 1986, the brand has been committed to enriching our riders' lives by producing enjoyable, high-quality bicycles that provide years of riding enjoyment. We run a business that is built on hard effort, driven by enthusiasm, and rewarded by the satisfaction of giving the joy of cycling to riders all over the world.

Whether your idea of fun is riding rugged trails to that high alpine lake, pinning on a race number and entering your first race, taking the long way home on your commuter bike, bikepacking to that remote campsite, or simply exploring the neighborhood bike paths, Marin brings the fun. It is the idea that drives us when designing new bikes, from long-travel, trail-devouring machines that thrive on some of the world's most difficult race circuits to multi-surface competent pavement collections. Each model is intended to be lively and to maximize the possibilities for two-wheeled pleasure.

1986-1988

The success of Marin's first model, the Madrone Trail, drew attention and lay the framework for three decades of mountain performance options.

Only two years after the company's inception, the well-received 1988 Marin Team Titanium made history as one of the industry's first production titanium mountain bikes.

1986-1988

Marin begins naming models after Marin County's prominent landmarks, including Muirwoods, Bolinas Ridge, Pine Mountain, Indian Fire Trail, Eldridge Grade, and Hidden Canyon.

1991

Marin has a long history of innovation and has been at the forefront of introducing new product categories to the market.

Located near the urban cycling hub of San Francisco. Marin pioneered the new hybrid category, introducing some of the industry's first models and growing the brand into a new section of riders.

1993

A pioneer of full-suspension design. The 1993 Titanium FRS featured early Manitou Suspension Components and weighed under 25 pounds. Jurgen Beneke won the world championship with the Titanium FRS that year.

Time Flies By

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Marin established a global fanbase by providing innovative, competitive bikes and successful sponsored riders. Hydroformed, monocoque, and growing numbers of full suspension versions, as well as the Quad-Link design, hit the market. These MTB models, combined with a stronger emphasis on pavement biking, cemented Marin's status as one of the bicycle industry's primary influencers.
